Personality

Emile Vane is the mother of Hilde, Trenton, Mnemosyne and Romilda Vane. She is also the oldest sister of Phineas Bulstrode, and chief operating officer at her family's company, Bulstrode Publishing and Media, the largest publishing company in the wizarding community where she controls the magazine division. She loves the things that having money has afforded her, but she lives such a low key life without many splurges on frivolous things that it hardly matters. But she likes knowing the money is there. She bakes to relax, with cupcakes being her favorite treat. Actually, she would rather bake than deal with most people. Emile is an offbeat, aloof, free spirited woman and is often misunderstood because of her dry sense of humor. This is something that she's quite fine with, as she doesn't care for too many people in the first place.

Growing up her parents were supporters of the Dark Lord, leading all of her siblings with the exception of Fiona to revere all things pureblood. Aside from that, Emile couldn't be arsed to get involved with the Death Eaters and was let down, although not entirely surprised, when her younger brother Phineas became one. Emile blamed that turn on events on his wife, Olivia, whom Emile never liked and wasn't shy about saying so. She, instead, chose to distance herself from that life.

She met her husband, Hildebrant, after graduating from Hogwarts. She'd decided to move out of her parent's mansion and got a flat of her own in Diagon Alley, when one day a man walking out of Gringotts bank literally bumped into her. Although annoyed, she paused to apologize and then kept on her way, not even bothering to look at him. He, on the other hand, was immediately taken with her beauty and, since Emile is a fast walker, had to quite literally chase her down. He asked her on a date, which she declined, but Hildebrant was persistent. After a while he wore her down with his charm, and Emile finally agreed to one date with him.

One date turned into many dates, and it wasn't until Emile was beginning to fall in love with Hildebrant that she found out that he and his pureblood family were Voldemort supporters as well, and that he was a Death Eater. She was a bit let down, as she thought she had succeeded in distancing herself from that life. But she pushed her reservations aside and after a couple of years they married. Of course with the Bulstrodes and the Vanes being prominent supporters of all things pureblood, she had to keep up appearances.

Throughout this time, Emile had been working hard at her family's company. Even though the eldest son is usually the one who takes over the family business, Alexander barely had half the passion or the creativity that she possessed and wanted to bring to Bulstrode Publishing. When their father stepped down Emile would take his place, it seemed almost a foregone conclusion to the rest of her siblings.

As a total shock, Emile became pregnant. She and Hildebrant had been married barely a year and she wasn't even sure if she wanted kids. Emile wanted to get out of England and see the world with her husband before she took her eventual place as the head of Bulstrode Publishing, so the pregnancy put a screeching halt to those plans. But when her daughter, Hilde was born, she discovered that she did, in fact possess the maternal instinct. But she couldn't help but long for her abandoned plans, so her love for her daughter was mixed in with a resentment not at all helped by post-partum depression.

Then, to add insult to injury, her father decided that she should stay home and take care of her child instead of worrying about heading up a large company, turning control of the company over to Alexander. While she was still reeling from that blow, she discovered that she was once again pregnant with her son, Trenton. A year or so later, Emile attempted to change her father's mind. But just when it looked like she was getting somewhere, her father died. At the reading of the will, she discovered that along with her inheritance, her father left her the job of running the magazine department. It infuriated her, as her father always looked upon the division as nothing but a necessary evil. It was as if her father had tossed her a scrap of the company just to placate her. She then discovered that she was pregnant with her daughter, Mnemosyne.

After fighting like hell, she managed to get a seat on the board of directors at Bulstrode Publishing, so she had a say in what went on much to Alexander's chagrin. Just when she had revamped Witch Weekly Magazine and things seemed to be going well, Hildebrant was suddenly killed while he and Hilde were out doing some shopping. The morning of the funeral was when she found out she was pregnant with what would be her daughter, Romilda.

Losing Hildebrant was a crushing blow. Emile tried to keep it together since she had three small children and one on the way, but it just led to her more than occasional uncharacteristic outbursts as a result of her not grieving properly and losing control. She grew to become more quiet and standoffish, took to confiding in hers and Hildebrant's first and oldest house-elf, Daisy, threw herself headlong into her work (again, to Alexander's chagrin), and began an almost obsessive desire for baking.

Emile truly loves her kids and would die for them, but as her pregnancies came at the worst times in her life, making her view her children as a blessing and a curse.

With her children now grown or in school, Emile would love to finally take her trip around the world, but with Alexander constantly on her back, she can barely be five minutes late without him breathing down her neck.
